Why is my water bill high this month?

Water bills can rise for several reasons. A running toilet, dripping faucet/hosebib, or failing water service line can slowly but steadily, increase your water usage, resulting in an abnormally high bill.

Where is my sewer meter and how are my sewage costs calculated?

There is no meter on sewer lines.  Local water purveyors calculate your sewage costs based on water consumption.

Anytime I flush my toilet, sewage comes out of my bathtub or floor drain.

This usually means the line has a partial or complete blockage. Bathtubs, showers, and floor drains are typically the lowest place in a sewer line, meaning they are the first place for sewage to back up and exit the sewer piping.

Why is the water company saying the leak is my responsibility?

At the beginning of the property, a water meter is installed by local water purveyor to monitor water usage. From the outlet on, the line is the homeowner’s responsibility to repair and maintain.

What can I put down the toilet? The wipes say they're flushable, why can't I flush them?

While the labels read flushable, they will not break down the same as toilet paper once discharged into the sewer piping.  They can build up and cause blockages and potentially damage the sewer or septic system. We highly recommend never flushing anything other than toilet paper down your drains.

Why do I hear a loud bang when I turn my faucet off?

The pipes may not be secured adequately. Most likely, they need to be secured where pipes may be pushed against a metal or wood stud. In extreme cases, you may need to have a shock arrestor installed which absorbs the shock of water pressure and reduces vibrations throughout the system.
